About my Artwork

I agree with the philosophical view of Nelson Goodman that the given real world is nothing but a fiction, understanding of its existence is impossible and it just consists of the multilayer of world visions which the real world itself produced. At the same time I am sympathizing with the teaching of Buddha that in the real world all the material things that appear and disappear are voidness that inconstantly arising dependent but the only thing really exists is the mind. also Toegye Lee-Hwang’s attitude toward the life to realize the value of “Yi” in daily life by self-improvement and practicing gave me an impression.

Considering all the harm i have caused to my family under the name of “ being an Artist ” for my life, mentioning those values above reveals my daily contradictions and puts me to shame but I didn’t mention those to decorate my artworks with the fancy words

Looking back upon my life, Through the Art, with the hope of achieving the “exhausted nature” by investigating principle exhaustively, I could have studied the materials existing in the real world -- which allowed me be able to gain the true Knowledge about the real world . I understood the beauty of value oriented life by the Art. Lastly thorough the journey of discovering the world of art, I could enjoy the unexpected opportunities of encountering many great teachers in my life.

One day in 1992, I adopted the style of canvas divided by the sections, full of the complementary colours without hesitating. I made such decision to pursue the value of practical attitude that value should precede the problems of the theme and the form. While performing that value, I decided that craftsmanship or power shouldn’t interfere my works and in a way to follow my decision I borrowed the striped patterns in the awning or cotton, such common patterns easily found in the street. This decision or this belief of mine about the art and my work not only makes the images inquire the convention of painting but also fortifies my old conviction that ultimately the art is illustrated rationality.

As already Pop artists insisted, at least in the dimension of the image, the discrimination and the privilege don’t exist, but only the passion and the practice of artists do exist and have meaning. With the similar point of view, I have never loosen my passion and interest about iconography including, from, the geometrical figure in those ancient oriental and occidental paintings that came first under the title of art, The hexagrams in the Book of changes (I Ching) ,to, even those from product brochures.

I have belief that the beginning of good art comes from the attitude of the artist that first putting down the concept embedded in the stereotypes and the desire, starts to view and evaluate the world with one’s one point of view again. If the world is numerous world versions that consist of countless individual consciousness, it would be better to seek the value inside the world with one’s own point of view.

Under this notion that I mentioned above, with the simplest practical method and with the naturally given beauty of rationality, I suggest and I deliberate my work
