Oriental works of Art Ukiyo-e Beauties

Uragami Sokyu-do Co., Ltd. was founded in 1979 in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. The founder, Mitsuru Uragami, worked for a well-established antique art dealer, Mayuyama & Co., for five years. Then he started his own business, which marks its 34th anniversary in 2013. We deal with the works of Asian art, especially that of Chinese, Korean and Japanese ceramics; as well as Ukiyo-e wood block prints. Since our establishment, we have organized and curated many exhibitions, which are listed in other page. These exhibitions gained high reputations from museums, collectors, and artists in Japan and abroad, and were featured in a various media besides art magazines. These exhibition catalogues also receive academic recognition from scholars at home and abroad. Moreover, the catalogues have been cited as references in auction catalogues of Sotheby's and Christie's for more than 20 times.
Our clients include museums and institutions from all over the world such as the Tokyo National Museum, Harvard University Art Museum, Cleveland Museum, USA, and so on. From 1997 to 2007, Uragami Sokyu-do participated in the International Asian Art Fair in New York for 11 years, and Mitsuru Uragami served on vetting committee of the fair. In Japan, Uragami Sokyu-do participates in Tobi Art Fair of Tokyo Art Club and Tokyo Art Fair.

We handle works of Chinese, Korean and Japanese antique ceramics and porcelain, bronz ware, lacquer ware, as well as Ukiyo-e wood block prints especially those of Hokusai.

From B1 exit of Nihonbashi station of Ginza and Tozai line, Tokyo Metro, walk straight toward Ginza and turn left on the 3rd street. The building is to your right hand at the end of the street.

From Yaesu chuo exit of Tokyo station, walk straight ahead on Yaesu dori, turn left at Chuo dori and turn right on the 2nd street.The building is to your right hand at the end of the street.

2012: Hokusai ; Manga and Shunga

Mr. Uragami is famous for his Hokusai collection. This year, he will show his Hokusai wood block prints and his collection of  'Shun-ga'. Here, you will explore the beauty of his high quality collections. The Mitsui Memorial Museum will also be exhibiting "The 250th Anniversary of Hokusai’s Birth: Masterpieces from the Honolulu Academy of Art".

Favorite three works, chosen by visitors, from those on display during Tokyo Art & Antiques, wrote their reasons on the piece of paper provided, and the best author was gifted an original Hokusai print.
